East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people’s lives, delivering vital services to a quarter of a million people across East Suffolk.

We are looking for an exceptional individual to join our Environmental Protection team to undertake environmental health activities in relation to Local Air Quality Management, to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and to take our Air Quality Strategy to the next stage.

As a Technical Officer, you should as a minimum hold a level 3 qualification in a relevant discipline, with previous experience in a role related to the Environment being an advantage, but not essential. Knowledge and relevant experience supporting Air Quality management would be an advantage.

You will be computer literate and be capable of maintaining electronic records to a high standard of accuracy, completeness and integrity, have clear and precise communication skills as well as the ability to work as part of a team.

Duties will include:

  • reviewing and updating our Air Quality Strategy
  • researching new projects for inclusion and updating progress on existing projects.

This will require the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders from a variety of disciplines and to accurate and concisely summarise and condense sometimes quite technical content into readable copy for a more general audience, including analysing and presenting data in an accessible format.

You will also be called upon to present information to groups of all abilities, tailoring content to suit each audience and to participate in the delivery of Air Quality related projects from time to time.

Due to the current situation with COVID-19, the majority of our teams are working from home and there are strict social distancing measures in place for the limited number of staff working from our offices. However, when normal service is resumed, the nature of the work will very often require the successful applicant to make visits to premises in any part of the East Suffolk district at short notice. If you wish to discuss how that might impact your working arrangements if you were the successful candidate, please contact the recruiting manager listed at the bottom of this advert.
