Southwold ChildWise Nursery, owned by SouthGen, a social enterprise, is a brand new nursery, opening in October 2021, in a beautifully renovated former Victorian cottage hospital that has been converted to a community hub.  Besides the nursery, the hub will have a café and co-working space (also owned by SouthGen) and Southwold Library.

All profits from Southgen’s businesses are reinvested in the community. The Old Hospital Hub has achieved national recognition because it is the first time a community has bought their hospital after it was closed by the NHS and has recycled it for new community purposes.  The Old Hospital is located a few minutes from the beach and the High Street within the Southwold Conservation Area. The nursery will be using the Curiosity Approach.  You can read about our Philosophy of Child Care and Our Vision and Values at: www.oldhospitalhub.co.uk

We are looking for dedicated, nurturing staff, who are eager to play a role in realising our vision, and keen to work in a respectful, warm and supportive environment.  Southgen is committed to developing its staff and we will be providing you with mentoring support from our Nursery Director, a recently retired primary school head teacher.

We are looking to recruit a Deputy Manager to share our vision and join us in this exciting new venture.

To apply for the post you should:

  • have a minimum Level 3 qualification in Children and Young Peoples Workforce or equivalent
  • have excellent working knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage and current Ofsted statutory guidance.
  • have some experience of managing in a nursery environment e.g. a room leader
  • have the ability to perform under stress
  • have theability to deputise for the Nursery manager
  • have a knowledge of policies and procedures needed to maintain an effective nursery provision
  • have the ability to lead and work as part of a team
  • have a high level of motivation and enthusiasm
  • be reliable, enthusiastic, and flexible
  • have a good sense of humour.

In return we offer good rates of pay, statutory holidays, some flexibility in working hours, a purpose-built nursery space and a commitment to continuing professional development for all our staff.

It is anticipated that the Deputy Manager’s post will have a start date of 1 September 2021 so that they can be involved in the setup of the Nursery, which is due  to open on 4 October 2021.

For an informal discussion about the posts please contact either Elaine Glendinning on 07725 692864 or Jessica Jeans on 07771 657360.
