On 1 April 2019, we will become East Suffolk Council – a new ‘super district’ authority, replacing Suffolk Coastal and Waveney. It will be the largest district council in the country, providing high quality services to a quarter of a million people across east Suffolk. Our councils are an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people’s lives, delivering vital services to those who need them most.

Suffolk Coastal and Waveney District Councils’ Housing Needs Team is looking for a caring, creative, motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the team who will  really make a difference to local people in East Suffolk who are experiencing housing challenges (case management and housing solutions).  You will be working with customers who may be in potentially difficult or sensitive situations, so great negotiation and inter-personal skills will be required.

As a key and pivotal   point of contact for the team, you will take a proactive and effective approach to the prevention of homelessness, by investigating, assessing and advising customers on all the options open to them in order to keep their current accommodation or secure suitable re-housing with the aim to prevent homelessness. You will also lead and be responsible for a small portfolio of temporary accommodation along with the delivery of the Council’s Private Rented Access Schemes.

With previous experience of dealing with homelessness and housing solutions, you will have the ability to work independently to deadlines under pressure, be self-motivated and prioritise a demanding and complex workload. The job will involve a partnership approach with a need to work with landlords, statutory and voluntary agencies.

Interested? If so, please read the job description and person specification on the right of the page before applying for this job.

In return, we can offer great opportunities for training and development and we’ll give you all the support we can to build a great career with our organisation. There’s also a superb benefits package including flexible working options and purpose built brand new office accommodation, as well as a generous leave entitlement, discount scheme, pension scheme and free car parking.
