We are expanding our Fire ICT team to meet the increasing demands for technology with our innovative Fire and Rescue Service.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service for an experienced IT professional to join our small multi-skilled 24/7 ICT team. This role will involve managing the ICT User Support Team and the Service Desk ensuring that an effective, efficient and best value ICT service is provided.

Systems you deliver and support will be used by operational crews and other fire personnel to deliver emergency and day-to-day services to the public.

You will prioritise service requests, allocate cases and plan maintenance tasks as well as taking the lead on specialist areas and advising colleagues with issues or new requests. You will undertake trend analysis to help the team focus its resources efficiently and you will also deal with any security threats that might arise. You will use a range of tools and techniques to resolve issues, from network analysis software to hands-on building of racks and servers.

You will bring experience, enthusiasm and a commitment to working hard. Given the diverse nature of the team’s work, you may not be expert in all areas from the outset but we will help you to develop within the role in a supportive and positive environment.

The team is based at Ipswich East Fire Station but is responsible for equipment at all 35 fire stations across Suffolk and in Combined Fire Control in Cambridgeshire. You will be expected to travel to install and maintain equipment; the team has a support vehicle for use by the duty engineer.

The role has a diverse remit due to the size of the team and the 24/7 support provided which means you must be hands on and flexible in your approach.

This organisation positively encourages the use of technology to communicate and engage, but in this role you will need to operate across a wide and rural area, so you must either hold a full and current driving licence and have access to personal transport or meet the mobility requirements of the role through other reasonable and suitable means.
