East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people’s lives, delivering vital services to a quarter of a million people across East Suffolk.
The Planning Service is central to the future success of the new council, helping to shape and deliver the prosperity of the area, while keeping it a special and desirable place in which to live, work and visit. To support this ambition, the Planning team needs to grow and in return we can offer the right candidates significant opportunities to develop their careers with an award-winning service.
The council is delivering nationally significant infrastructure projects in the energy sector, positively responding to the Government’s growth agenda by allocating and positively planning for significant residential development across the district and delivering significant employment opportunities. The work will include promoting and enhancing the Port of Felixstowe as well as supporting the regeneration of Lowestoft. Growth on this scale needs to be sensitively managed to ensure it is delivered with the best possible infrastructure in place and impacts fully mitigated.
Additionally, a significant proportion of the district sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, adjacent to the Broads National Park and along a stunning coastline of pristine beaches and beautiful estuaries. Lowestoft is within a short distance of the historic, university city of Norwich, with Melton close to Ipswich and an hour’s train journey to London. No other district in the country is able to offer the successful candidates the quality of life, variety and breadth of planning opportunities and development in the country’s largest and newest district planning authority.
Working as part of the Energy Projects Team, the role will involve assessment of major planning applications, pre-application submissions and Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects in accordance with planning law, national and local policy and guidance. The role is a career grade role, enabling the successful applicant to assist the Senior Energy Projects Officer and Energy Projects Manager, whilst securing an appropriate level of expertise and experience to enable progression through the career grade to more independent working, providing professional planning advice in relation to major projects as part of the wider project team.
This role will involve close work with internal and external stakeholders, travel within and outside of the county, and dependent on experience and qualifications the provision of expert evidence for Examinations and Inquiries.
The energy sector in East Suffolk is expanding hugely and we are currently involved in pre-application discussions for a new nuclear power station, two offshore wind farms and interconnectors joining East Suffolk with Europe. It is therefore an exciting time to join this expanding team specialising in planning for the challenges associated with the energy sector.
In return, we can offer great opportunities for training and development. We want you to stay with us for the long-term, so we’ll give you all the support we can to build a great career with our organisation. There’s also a superb benefits package including flexible working options and purpose-built, brand-new office accommodation, as well as a generous leave entitlement, discount scheme, pension scheme and free car parking.
