This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and ambitious planner to work alongside Principal Planning Officers on large-scale and challenging planning applications and projects.

The current focus for the Special Projects team is the delivery of the Ipswich Garden Suburb, which is a 3,500 dwelling mixed-use scheme. A masterplan is in place and the outline permissions for more than half the houses are currently being progressed. This is therefore an ideal time to join our team and play a key role in delivering the project and having a positive influence on the quality of the development as we move into the detailed planning application stages.

This is also an excellent opportunity to gain invaluable experience of larger, strategic projects. In doing so, you will be ensuring the details and S106 obligations are met as well as contributing to strategic planning work. The workload may vary and involve working on other large projects as and when needed.

You will be an enthusiastic, motivated and proactive Town Planner, holding a degree or postgraduate diploma or NVQ level 6 in planning or a relevant field plus 3 years qualitative experience. You will also have effective project management skills and a real desire to shape and improve the built environment. The role will require a skilled communicator who has experience of dealing effectively with a range of stakeholders. You will have experience of handling a broad range of complex development proposals within tight deadlines.

This post offers a range of benefits including:

  • Green Travel Plan offering reduced public transport tickets including 60% discount on train season tickets for travel to work
  • Flexible working hours
  • Payment of annual RTPI membership subscriptions
  • Relocation policy
  • Childcare subsidy
  • Use of our fleet of electric pool cars and pool bikes for business use around the Borough.
