The Corporate Policy Team at West Suffolk Council play a central role in providing high-quality policy, strategy and analytical support to councillors, the Chief Executive, leadership team and service areas.
Our aim is to improve the quality of decision-making to ensure residents and businesses are supported in the best way possible, and the councils are best placed to face future challenges.
As a senior policy advisor, each day is different. One day, you may be doing research into how other councils address an issue and designing a consultation exercise to seek the views of residents. Another day, you may be carrying out an options appraisal and giving strategic advice to a service area about how they can continue to improve the service provided for residents and businesses.
As well as providing policy support to specific teams (planning, licensing and environmental health in the first instance), you will also have opportunities to be involved in strategic work on current topics such as the future of local government and responding to Government consultations and in countywide initiatives through Suffolk-wide working.
Working alongside two other senior policy advisors (known as "business partners") in a wider team of 10, you will need to be a great team player who is quick-thinking, flexible, loves a challenge and has a real interest in problem solving and creative thinking.
