Sidegate is a three-form entry primary school in the north of Ipswich with 655 pupils on roll and is an academy with the Active Learning Trust. A significant number of our families require support to ensure that their children are given the best start in life and can achieve their academic potential. We pride ourselves in ensuring that all pupils are protected and safeguarded to the very best of our ability, engaging with a wide range of external agencies to enable the very best support we can to be provided for our families. We provide a safe and nurturing environment for all pupils, which includes interventions for their social, emotional and mental health needs. In 2017, we were the first primary school in Suffolk to be awarded the Gold Young Carers Award and Ofsted stated 'The school's work to promote pupils' personal development and welfare is outstanding.'

The Family and Pupil Welfare Lead works within our busy Inclusion Team and reports directly to the Assistant Head (Inclusion). This is a key role in the school as this post is the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead, e-Safety Lead, Prevent Lead, Attendance Lead, Mental Health Lead and a member of the school's Senior Leadership Team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Actioning all child protection concerns
  • Safeguarding pupils
  • Liaising with families and other agencies to identify need, implement appropriate early help and ensure that this has a positive impact on children's life chances
  • identifying and scheduling interventions to meet the mental health needs of pupils.

You will be required to train staff and volunteers, meet with parents, assess needs, liaise with other agencies, attend multi-agency meetings, keep meticulous records and evaluate the impact of the support provided. You will manage your own diary within your employed hours and travelling expenses will be paid in accordance with Active Learning Trust's travel rates.

Ideally, you will have experience of working in a family support role and / or for one of the many agencies that currently work with schools. You will have excellent people skills, be highly organised and self-motivated. Full training will be offered to meet the statutory requirements of the role.

Please see the job description for further information.

You are welcome to visit the school for a short tour and to discuss the post further. Please contact Helen Quantrill, School Business Manager on (01473) 727319 or email: helen.quantrill@sidegate.net if you would like to take up this opportunity.

Please return your completed application form, along with a covering letter to Toni Cornish, PA to Headteacher via email: toni.cornish@sidegate.net or via post: Sidegate Primary School, Sidegate Lane, Ipswich IP4 4JD.

Interview date: 24 September 2019.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. DBS checks or police vetting will be required for relevant posts.
