The Head of Year role is a demanding one and this position provides the opportunity of taking on the role until the end of the academic year before a mutual decision is taken with regard to making the role permanent.

There is an exciting opportunity to lead a pastoral team due to the reorganisation of the staffing structure in school. We need someone who is able to provide vision, direction and inspiration for students, who enjoys a challenge and is not afraid of change.

Heads of Year are the driving force in maintaining high standards of behaviour for learning. This is a key role within the pastoral structure of our school and is essential in establishing the purposeful and disciplined environment in which Stowmarket students shine.

You will join our motivated pastoral team, reporting directly to the senior member of staff linked to the year group, which in turn is overseen by the Assistant Headteacher in charge of pastoral / behaviour. You will lead a team of form tutors, taking overall responsibility for the organisation, welfare and discipline of the year.

The Head of Year position requires someone who is robust and rigorous but caring and sensitive to the needs of the individual and who believes in the importance of paying attention to detail. The position is demanding but rewarding, and requires someone who can multi-task and prioritise demands. Liaison with parents and with external agencies is an important aspect of the role.

Level 3 qualifications and GCSE mathematics and English (or equivalent) are essential.

Stowmarket High School is situated in picturesque mid Suffolk with excellent commuter links to Cambridge, Ipswich and Norwich. We are an inclusive 11 - 18 Academy and part of Waveney Valley Academies Trust. We are currently in the throes of having a new school built on our current site and plan to move in to our new state of the art school in 2020.
