An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Suffolk County Council (SCC) Early Help Team as a Family Support Practitioner, working from either Ipswich, Leiston, Sudbury or Stowmarket.

Positions available:

  • Coastal North Early Help Team (2 posts): 18.5 - 37 hours per week
  • South Suffolk Early Help Team (2 posts): 18.5 - 37 hours per week
  • Ipswich South Early Help Team (2 posts): 30 hours and 26 hours per week
  • Ipswich North and East Early Help Team: 18.5 - 37 hours per week
  • Central Early Help Team: 18.5 - 37 hours per week

Your role

This is a diverse, challenging and rewarding role. As an Early Help Family Support Practitioner, you will deliver a range of interventions to vulnerable children and families across Suffolk. Using the Signs of Safety and Well-being Framework, we enable and support families to make changes in their lives that will promote:

  • safety and stability
  • independence
  • physical and emotional health
  • access to education, training or employment opportunities.

Working closely with Social Care teams we also deliver bespoke interventions to support Child in Need and Child Protection plans, as well as delivering a supervised contact service to Children in Care and their families.

Due to the demands of supervised contact, there will need to be a degree of flexibility from staff regarding working some weekends and some out of hours.

Your responsibilities

You will require the ability to:

  • communicate and engage with children of all ages and their families
  • assess, plan and review
  • report and record accurately
  • actively build relationships and networks with Multi-Agency Partners
  • manage risk and safeguarding concerns
  • offer information, advice and signpost.

Individuals are encouraged to develop specialisms specific to their role as a Family Support Practitioner and to follow career progression opportunities, this can include supported routes such as the apprentice social worker programme.

Travelling requirements for your role

  • This organisation positively encourages the use of technology to communicate and engage, but in this role, you will need to operate across a wide and rural area, so you must either hold a full and current driving licence and have access to personal transport or meet the mobility requirements of the role through other reasonable and suitable means.
